Dear Mr Newell,

I will not start by procrastinating with unecessary gushing platitudes. I think we are both well aware that Valve is very near the top - if not sitting resplendently at the summit itself - of the heap of gaming software development studios.

Allow me then to explain the reason for my writing this letter. I'm fully aware that software of the quality that Valve produces takes time to perfect, and as such I thought I might offer my services in a bid to hasten the arrival of that most anticipated of titles; Half Life 2: Episode 3. I am quite an accomplished concept artist, and have been busy generating ideas for possible new enemy types for use in Episode 3. Not to take anything away from your existing telented artists, but herein I think you will find pitch perfect ideas and designs that will not only fit snugly within the Half Life mythos, but that will also serve to bring a certain je ne sais quoi to the already excellent Half Life experience.

Please do let me know if you think these characters would be suitable for inclusion in the game. If you do decide to use them, I insist that I receive no payment. The knowledge that I have contributed to the Half Life legend - albeit in a small and understated way - is worth more to me than a fee of even as much as 37.67 pence.

Best regards,
Ben Blease

Dear Rare,

As a long time fan I read with interest of your recent recruitment drive seeking out individuals with unique or interesting ideas pertaining to Microsoft's upcoming Natal device, and more specifically Rare's involvement in developing new content for it. Although I have no experience in the games industry, I have worked within the creative industry for a number of years and am an avid gamer, and I feel I have a number of exciting ideas which would genuinely and radically push the boundaries of what gamers would consider constitutes 'gameplay' within the videogame experience. Project Natal, combined with Rare's enviable track record of producing quality gaming software would, I feel, be the optimum solution for realsing my ideas and letting players around the world experience the leap in interactive entertainment they represent to their very fullest potential.

I have attached a brief outline of but one of my proposals. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions regarding this, or wish to see more of my ideas.

Best Regards
Ben J. Blease BA(hons), MA
